Stages of Construction

Stage 1:

Algonquin overpass

(c) Google 2022

Algonquin Blvd. East will be closed from the Pine St. intersection to just east of the Algonquin overpass, leaving the Pine St. intersection open to traffic. During Stage 1, the Algonquin overpass will be demolished, removed, and the asphalt will be removed from the road surface.

Motorists are asked to use the Brunette Rd. / Second Ave. detour if they are bypassing the downtown area. This will ease traffic congestion near the construction site. Eastbound traffic will turn right at Mountjoy St. South to Second Ave. Temporary traffic lights will be in place at the intersection of Brunette Rd. and Second Ave. and Second Ave. and Mountjoy St. South.

Stage 2:

Segment 8

Once demolition of the overpass is complete, contractors will be closing the full construction zone east of Balsam St. to west of Brunette Rd. This is to provide crucial construction staging space for equipment and materials, without limiting municipal parking space, and creating added safety around the active work zone.

Contractors will start work just past the Balsam St. intersection moving east towards Brunette Rd. Work includes all underground work including new watermain installation, new sanitary and storm sewer installation, new concrete curb and sidewalk, asphalt paving, above ground electrical. The road east of Spruce St. will be filled and leveled. A temporary snowmobile crossing is also being added adjacent to Hollinger Park crossing Algonquin Blvd. E. east of the Brunette intersection.

A pedestrian crossing will be maintained across Algonquin Blvd. E. that will move as construction progresses. Access to City Hall will be maintained by a temporary pedestrian walkway that can be accessed via the Cedar St. parking lot, or through the City's side entrance and elevator access.
