Timmins Transit On-Demand is a microtransit service that is being tested in Porcupine and South Porcupine. The on-demand, shared-ride service launches August 1, 2024, and will allow riders traveling to and from Porcupine and South Porcupine to reserve real-time rides that will connect them to Timmins Transit’s conventional bus service. The price per ride is the same as using regular bus service. See Fares

Timmins Transit On-Demand provides shared-ride public transit trips between any two designated bus stop locations within Porcupine and South Porcupine. Unlike our traditional fixed-route service, you request a trip through the mobile app, web portal, or by calling Timmins Transit (705-360-2600 ext. 3504). Our smaller-sized, fully accessible buses will pick you up at your closest bus stop and drop you off at the bus stop closest to your destination, while picking up other riders along the way.

This is Timmins Transit your way … and it will revolutionize travel to and from Porcupine and South Porcupine! An expanded service area, more virtual stops, convenient in-app payment and real-time trip notifications will make it even easier to plan travel.

 How to Book a Ride

 

No smart phone? No problem!

Use your computer or tablet to book a ride from Timmins Transit On-Demand. CLICK HERE to access the website version of Timmins Transit On-Demand. You can plan, book, confirm, and pay for your ride.

Riders can also book a ride by phone. Call 705-360-2600 ext. 3504. When you book by phone, you will not receive real-time notifications and will have to pay for your ride in-person when boarding.

Service Area

Timmins Transit On-Demand service is currently being piloted for travel to and from Porcupine and South Porcupine. Effective August 1, 2024, Route 16 and Route 901 East will be replaced with Route 101 E. 

For Schumacher residents traveling eastbound, a new bus stop is being added at the intersection of Hwy. 101 E and McIntyre Rd.

Virtual Bus Stops

Beginning August 1, 2024, designated bus stops will now include both traditional bus stops marked by signage, and virtual bus stops. Virtual bus stops allow for more convenient locations close to riders. They are not marked by signage. When you book your ride using Timmins Transit On-Demand, you will be directed to wait at these locations, including the correct side of the street, in order to meet your shared ride.

If you currently use one of the listed stops to catch one of our conventional buses, beginning August 1, 2024, you will need to book your ride through Timmins Transit On-Demand app. You can pay through the app and you’ll receive real-time notifications to track when your ride is arriving.


15-Minute Frequency

A conventional bus will be traveling to and coming from Porcupine and South Porcupine every 15 minutes, connecting riders to points in Schumacher and Timmins. Your On-Demand ride will connect you to a conventional bus at the nearest transit hub.

The hours of service follow our traditional bus services, weekdays from approximately 6:40 a.m. to 10:50 p.m., Saturdays from 6:40 a.m. to 10:50 p.m., and Sundays from 8:40 a.m. to 6:50 p.m. The times allow for bus travel time, so that the first available ride is approximately 15 minutes from the start of the service day and/or no later than 40 minutes before the end of service day.

Timmins Transit On-Demand is a shared rider service. There are no guarantees that trips will be a direct ride. You may share a vehicle with others traveling in a similar direction, making stops along the way.

15-minute frequency provides more travel to and from Porcupine, South Porcupine, Timmins, and Schumacher. Travel more. Wait less.
