At the June 27, 2023 council meeting, City Council approved the contract for a new overnight security pilot project for Timmins. The project was previously approved as part of the 2023 budget after recommendation from the Downtown BIA. The cost is covered by the City's portion of the municipal accommodation tax (MAT).

The overnight security project has been awarded to Pads K9 Protection and Detection, a Timmins-based company.

Purpose:

Security patrols will take place daily between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to provide visual checks of businesses and neighbourhoods across the city. The purpose is to provide an additional level of safety and security in the community overnight and help to prevent unwanted vandalism and crime. Incidents of vandalism, crime, speeding, inappropriate operation of vehicles, and issues of concern will be directly reported to the Timmins Police Service (TPS) through dispatch or 9-1-1.

The City of Timmins remains actively engaged with TPS to identify areas of concern, such as hotel parking lots and laneways. Patrol will be conducted by vehicle.

Reporting:

Pads K9 Protection and Detection is required to keep daily security reports and provide weekly reporting to the municipality including incidents, complaints, damage, and vandalism.
