The Housing Taskforce was established in late 2022, to look at challenges and opportunities related to housing supply in the City of Timmins. Lead by the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, and made up of community partners and stakeholders, the Housing Taskforce was created to help meet demand from the renewed interest, activity, and proposed investment in Timmins, all of which will require new housing development.
The Housing Taskforce submitted a list of recommendations to Council (ahead of 2024 budget deliberations) to assist in addressing gaps in the housing supply in order to support business development and economic growth. The recommendations are grouped under four headings:
- Planning and Policy
- Development Incentives
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Affordable Housing Strategies (or Supports)
