As part of our commitment to educate the public about the importance of pollinators, the Bee City Pollinator Team produces educational campaigns which are distributed on the City of Timmins’ Facebook page and on the City of Timmins website.
Bee Spring Ready
Even the smallest garden can provide the necessary elements to create a habitat for pollinators.
5 things you can do to create a pollinator-friendly garden this spring:
- Do not clear out debris too soon and keep some leaves, wood and flat rocks.
- Select a variety of native plants, trees, and shrubs that will bloom from spring to fall.
- Provide shallow water dishes with a few half-submerged rocks.
- Leave bare spaces and limit the use of mulch.

Dandelion Education
A few things to keep in mind:
- Dandelions are often the first to bloom in the spring, providing immediate food for bees
- They are restorative plants - they are attempting to add diversity to your lawn
- They have large taproots which assist in breaking up compacted soil
Help pollinators from spring to fall!
Keeping a few dandelions in the spring is great but planting a pollinator-friendly garden with a variety of species that bloom from spring to fall is the ideal solution for pollinators.
