Aquatic Return to Swim Guidelines

TIMMINS AQUATIC COVID-19 GUIDELINES – RETURN TO SWIM
ARCHIE DILLON SPORTSPLEX POOL

PUBLIC SWIMMING

The City is now planning for a phased-approach to the opening of our swimming pool facility – with COVID-19 prevention measures. The City has collaborated with the Porcupine Health Unit, Canadian Red Cross Society, and the Lifesaving Society to develop a swimming structure that incorporates public health prevention and mitigation measures that help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

While measures to attempt to control the risks of the transmission of COVID-19, parents, participants and staff need to be aware and understand, that there are still risks with participating in a public swim, lane swim or swimming lesson.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

When you come to the aquatic facility, you’re going to notice several changes we have made to ensure we live up to our commitment to keep everyone safe, including:

  • All personal belongings need to be stored in a locker.
  • Saunas will be closed.
  • Directional signage to manage facility traffic flow.
  • We encourage swimmers to use goggles.
  • Swimmers are encouraged to bring their own equipment for their use only, only flutter boards will be available for loaning at the facility

VACCINATION PASSPORT

You will need to provide your proof of vaccination, your active medical exemption, or your participation in a Health Canada approved Covid-19 vaccine trial, along with your valid ID

Your proof of vaccination is your enhanced vaccine certificate with an official QR code, sometimes called a vaccine record. Your enhanced vaccine certificate is the most secure and convenient way to store and show your proof of vaccination status.

EXEMPTIONS

You do not have to show your proof of vaccination certificate, proof of medical exemption or proof of participation in a vaccine trial if you are:

12 years and (84 days) 12 weeks of age or younger o entering a business temporarily to:

  • access an outdoor area that you can only get to by going indoors
  • make a retail purchase
  • place, pick up or pay for an order
  • make a bet or pick up winnings at a racing track

  • Entry to the building will be denied for anyone who answers YES to any of the questions on the COVID-19 self-assessment

MASKS AND FACE COVERINGS

  • Users must wear a mask at all times while in the facility.
  • Swimmers must keep their face masks on until they enter the pool.
  • A mask storage rack will be located adjacent to the main pool and near our deep end area.
  • Plastic bags will be provided for storage while you are swimming. Storage areas will be cleaned and disinfected in between all swims.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

  • Frequent cleaning and disinfecting of common and pool areas, high-touch surfaces, change room and washroom facilities.
  • Only essential equipment will be provided for use on deck, and equipment will be disinfected between users. (i.e. flutter board)
  • Equipment that is not regularly in contact with chlorinated water will be disinfected every 4 hours at minimum.
  • Swimmers must wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before entry. Hand sanitizer will be made available at common entrance and exit doors.

DO YOUR PART TO SLOW THE SPREAD

  • Shower at home before going to the pool.
  • Wear your bathing suit to the pool.
  • Practice personal COVID-19 hygiene – washing or sanitizing your hands, staying home if you are ill.

BROWSE AND RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR PUBLIC AND LANE SWIMS (NOT CURRENTLY REQUIRED)

The number of swimmers have the potential of being reduced for both public swims and fitness classes to ensure physical distancing can be maintained, should government legislation require it.

  • LANE SWIM: Continuous lane swim workout. Children age 7 to 10 must pass the facility's swim test.
  • OPEN SWIM: An unstructured swim time open to all ages. Non-swimmers aged 10 and under, and all children aged 6 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult or youth, at least 14 years of age, responsible for the direct supervision of the child and actively swimming within arm’s reach at all times. Children aged 7,8, 9 and 10 must be tested to demonstrate their ability to swim 50 metres uninterrupted in order to be permitted to swim unaccompanied. 
  • AQUA FITNESS: Instructor lead exercise class in the water.

BROWSE AND REGISTER FOR COVID-19 MODIFIED SWIMMING LESSONS

Given the current Government of Ontario regulations, we have been forced to adapt how we teach swimming. We believe learning to swim is an essential service and can be done safely and in accordance with new regulations. On that basis, we have adapted our offering as follows:

  • Swimming instructors will maintain physical distancing from their students, unless hands on instruction is required for a specific skill, or for safety.
  • Registration for swim programs will be available online only.
  • Sometimes limiting our program offerings to only Private Swimming Lessons, and or size reduced classes;
  • Creating teaching zones with a maximum of 8 lessons taught at any given time to allow ample space between our Instructors, swimmers and guardians;
  • Instructors will be wearing a face shield and will maintain physical distancing where possible.
  • All program participants must bring their own masks. Staff has the right to refuse access to the facility should a mask not be worn.

While measures to attempt to control the risks of the transmission of COVID-19, parents, participants and staff need to be aware and understand, that there are still risks with participating in a swimming lesson.
