TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the City of Timmins will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City of Timmins, 220 Algonquin Boulevard East, Timmins, Ontario, to gather public input regarding a proposed Zoning By-law Amendment under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O 1990, c. P. 13, as amended.

THE PURPOSE AND EFFECT of the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment is to rezone the subject lands currently zoned Mobile Home Park (RD-MHP) to General Commercial (EA-CG) SP6.190 to permit all uses in the General Commercial (EA-CG) zone with the following Special Provisions:
- Reduce the landscaping buffer requirement along the south property line from 3.0 metres to 0.5 metres.
- Reduce the minimum setback requirement for the commercial building abutting a residential zone from 7.5 metres to 3.5 metres.
The applicant is proposing to covert the existing residential dwelling into a commercial building on the subject lands.
ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment.
If a person or public body would otherwise have an ability to appeal the decision of Council of the City of Timmins to the Ontario Land Tribunal but the person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting or make written submissions to the City of Timmins before the by-law is passed, the person or public body is not entitled to appeal the decision.
If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at a public meeting, or make written submissions to the City of Timmins before the by-law is passed, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to do so.

Temporary Closure delayed due to further non-compliance found at the landfill – maintenance will be push till June 25, 2024.
The City of Timmins, Environmental Services Department, Waste Management Division, wishes to inform the public that the Robb Twp. Landfill (Kamiskotia) will be temporarily closed for maintenance due to a substantial amount of unacceptable material being disposed of outside the designated cell. This includes items such as a shed, couches, appliances, mattresses, and other debris that require cleanup.
In order to address these issues and ensure regulatory compliance, we will be conducting necessary maintenance at the landfill. This will involve cleaning up the existing debris and constructing a new cell.

Updated- Anticipated Reopening: Tuesday, June 25, 2024 (afternoon)

A temporary stop sign will be installed at the intersection of Pine St. N. and Sixth Ave. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Motorists should be prepared to come to a complete stop.
The stop sign is being added to assist with traffic flow and vehicular safety during Connecting Link construction on Algonquin Blvd. E.
The intersection will act as a 4-way stop. The first vehicle to enter has the right-of-way at a four-way stop. If two or more cars stop at the same time, right-of-way goes to the vehicle on the right.

The City of Timmins, Environmental Services Department wishes to advise the public of water infrastructure maintenance activities in the following area:

Time of Disruption
• June 20, 2024, from 5:00PM - 9:00PM
Homeowners and businesses may experience short-term loss of water pressure or experience brown or rust-coloured water during or following the maintenance. It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discoloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn off your tap for 10-20 minutes in order to allow the crew to complete the maintenance. Once it is complete and the work crew has left the area, turn on the COLD water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal.
City staff would like to thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this necessary process, and advise that if there are any questions, concerns or requests for additional information, they may contact the Service Timmins at 705-264-1331. City Council has officially passed a new by-law meant to curtail nuisance behaviours exhibited in the City’s parklands and water areas situated within parklands.
By-law 2024-8999 formalizes the municipality’s authorization to manage, control, regulate, and maintain parklands for the enjoyment and benefit of residents and visitors. The by-law addresses concerns such as vandalism, littering, open fires, overnight camping, and public loitering.
“The Parkland By-law gives Enforcement Services greater authority to govern the usage of parks so that everyone can enjoy our public spaces safely and equally,” says City Clerk and Director of Community Services, Steph Palmateer. “It will work with other by-laws and services like the municipal noise by-law and animal control to provide greater certainty about how our parks and water areas, like both city splash pads, are used appropriately.”
The By-law prohibits public loitering between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and defines “loiter” as the act of staying at or near a particular place for more than twenty minutes. Furthermore, the by-law makes it clear that anyone who, at any time, loiters in a public park or obstructs other persons from using the park space will be guilty of an offence.
Under the Parklands By-law, any person who contravenes any of the regulations identified in the by-law may be ordered off or removed from park property, and could be liable to a fine set out in the Provincial Offences Act.
“The Parklands By-law is meant to support public use of our local parks, beachfronts, and splash pads,” adds Palmateer. “It’s common sense and prohibits conduct and conditions that could prevent people from enjoying themselves.”

The City of Timmins is advising all property owners within the area of Urquhart Rd. of an upcoming road closure on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
Ontario Northland Railway is conducting railway maintenance from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m. During this time there will be no means of crossing.

The Emergency Services Annual Food Bank Drive is back, Sunday, June 23. The Timmins Fire Department is helping to fill the shelves at the Timmins and South Porcupine Food Banks.
Food security is important, especially with current food prices. Community food drives help meet demand by stocking shelves with non-perishable donations that support local families. Beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, Fire Department trucks will be out collecting in neighbourhoods throughout the city. When residents see or hear a fire truck, they can bring out their non-perishable food or cash donations. Donations can also be dropped off at any of our community fire stations on June 23 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Residents wanting to volunteer and help collect donations can head to their local fire station for 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, or call the Timmins Fire Station at 705-360-2626 to register.
Help the Timmins Fire Department fill our food bank shelves and help feed our community.
